“Sweetgrass is best planted not by seed, but by putting roots directly in the ground. Thus the plant is passed from hand to earth to hand across years and generations. Its favored habitat is sunny, well-watered meadows. It thrives along disturbed edges.” - Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass

"Crowbar Skates formed July 1st, 2020 with a mission: decolonize skating and create space for female, femme, and 2SLGBTQ+ skaters of all wheel types. Megan McKay (she/her) and Chance Dupuis (he/him) are two Transgender, Indigenous skaters from Winnipeg, MB and have been creating space for marginalised skaters in Manitoba.

Rude Girls has supported us from the very beginning when we were mulling around on what used to be Chance’s rollerskate/roller derby account that there were not enough opportunities for 2SLGBTQ+ skaters in our home city. With Megan’s skateboarding experience of over 30+ years and Chance’s passion for rollerskating and community advocacy, Crowbar Skates hosts no-profit community events where marginalised skaters can come together and feel safer in the skate park. We chose the sweetgrass as it thrives when its challenged, like our community has since the beginning. Rude Girls has been a huge support through our events, marketing, and now merchandise line. We find ourselves to be incredibly lucky in not only working with our community but having Rude Girls to share in the joys of skating with."
